Healthy Meals & Nutrition for Preschoolers

Our Preschool Meal Plan

A thoughtfully designed preschool meal plan supports children’s growth, energy levels, and overall well-being throughout the day. At E-Bridge, meals are planned to provide balanced nutrition, with attention to variety, portion sizes, and age-appropriate dietary needs. Depending on the centre, meals may be freshly prepared on-site by an in-house kitchen team or supplied by the Middleton International School (MIS) central kitchen.

Breakfast

Breakfast provides children with a nourishing start to the day. Meals are designed to support steady energy levels, incorporating whole grains and protein sources where possible. These combinations reflect sound nutrition for preschoolers, helping children stay focused and engaged in morning activities.

Lunch

Lunch is carefully planned to offer balanced macronutrients, including carbohydrates for energy, protein for growth, and fruit and vegetables for essential vitamins and minerals. The weekly menu rotates to provide variety while ensuring meals remain suitable for preschool-aged children. Each lunch contributes meaningfully to children’s daily early childhood nutrition needs.

Snacks

Snacks are served at 2:30pm after naptime: they are designed to complement main meals without being overly heavy. Options may include pau, mantou, or wholesome alternatives that support healthy development. By maintaining balance across the day, our meal planning approach supports healthy meals for preschoolers while aligning with Singapore nutrition guidelines.

Our Approach to Early Childhood Nutrition

Good food habits begin in the early years. At E-Bridge, we view early childhood nutrition as an essential part of a child’s overall development, supporting concentration, physical growth, and emotional well-being. Mealtimes are not only about nourishment, but also about building positive relationships with food.

Our menus are thoughtfully planned to provide a balanced diet for young children, with attention to appropriate portion sizes, variety, and nutritional value. By introducing different tastes, textures, and ingredients across the week, children are gently encouraged to explore new foods in a supportive environment.

Educators also guide children in practising healthy eating routines, such as trying small portions, recognising hunger cues, and participating in shared mealtime conversations. Through consistency and encouragement, children develop confidence in making healthy choices that support long-term well-being.

Food Safety for Preschoolers

Ensuring safe and hygienic food preparation is a key part of providing nutritious meals in a preschool setting. Our food practices are guided by established standards and aligned with the Healthy Meals in Preschools Programme (HMPP) to support children’s well-being.

Food Hygiene Standards

Meals are prepared daily in accordance with proper food safety guidelines. Kitchen areas are maintained with strict hygiene practices, and food is stored and handled carefully to minimise risk. These procedures help ensure that children receive safe and wholesome meals each day.

Allergy Management

We recognise that some children may have food allergies or dietary restrictions. Clear processes are in place to identify and manage specific needs. Educators and kitchen staff work closely together to reduce cross-contact risks and ensure appropriate meal alternatives are provided where necessary.

Vegetarian Options

Vegetarian meal options are available to accommodate different dietary preferences. These meals are planned to ensure children continue to receive adequate nutrients while respecting family choices.

Parent Communication

Open communication with families is essential. Parents are informed about menus and can share relevant dietary information with the centre. This partnership supports a consistent approach to healthy eating between home and school.

Common Allergens For Preschoolers

Food allergies can develop early in life, and some children may require specific dietary arrangements to avoid ingredients that could cause a reaction. At E-Bridge Pre-School, we recognise that common allergens can affect each child differently, which is why families are encouraged to share any known allergies or dietary requirements with the centre.

Our team takes these needs into account when planning and serving meals. Where necessary, suitable alternative menu options can be arranged so that children receive meals that are safe for them to consume while still supporting balanced, age-appropriate nutrition. This approach helps children participate in daily meal times with greater comfort and gives families added reassurance that their dietary requirements are being carefully considered.

Across all E-Bridge Pre-School centres, outside food is strictly prohibited to help maintain food safety and support consistent nutrition standards. We also enforce a strict no-nuts policy across all schools. No foods containing peanuts or tree nuts are permitted on the premises, and no nuts are served during meal times. These measures help create a safer environment for all children, particularly those with nut allergies.
